Match Review - Men’s Round 6

There was only one fixture this week with first grade having a bye weekend.

Normanby Cup Round 7: Riverside Rebels vs Brisbane Irish

Coming off a one point win away to Souths in round 5, Irish travelled to Easts last Friday night to take on Riverside Rebels. This was the first time these two sides have met in this competition and neither side gave an inch in the opening exchanges. The ball was very greasy so both fly half’s were on kicking duty, deciding to punt downfield for territory. Riverside got on the board first with a penalty in front. Rebels 3 Brisbane Irish 0.

Irish pushed hard for a score just before half time but strong defence from the home side kept them out.

Irish made some changes at half time and started stronger in the second half. Irish 10 Mark Ormiston kicked the Irish into Rebels territory. Some good runs at the back from new recruits Graham Cullen and William read lifted the team. A strong run from back row Ollie Bastable got the Irish over for their first score. Two more tries from centres Aaron Spring and William Read gave the Irish a comfortable lead. Rebels came at the Irish line for the last few minutes of the game but the Irish held strong to hold them out.

Full time: Riverside Rebels 3 Brisbane Irish 15.

321 points for the night went to:

3 Points William Read

2 Points Ollie Bastable

1 Point Mark Ormiston

Next up for the Irish is at home to Beaudesert. Kick off 8.00pm
